METALCAMP 2008 news

They started it long time ago, and today turned it into a big thing. Today we know many so called pagan-folk metal bands, especially from Finland, but there’s only one FINNTROLL.

This is a band that started the pagan thing back in 1997, when no one else dared to think about making such a bizarre combination. With two records, “Nattfodd” and “Trollhammaren”, they created a great style in metal, a style perfect for drinking and dancing which Finntroll are so famous for. They created metal Humppa, a finish polka. This Troll from Finland was born in 1997 and released the first album “Midnattens Widunder” in 1999 and “Jaktens Tid” in 2001. They went through some band difficulties and line up changes, but became underground attraction that climbed to the Top 20 Finnish chart. They released an acoustical project “Visor om Slutet” before the retirement of the original singer Jamsen. At the time Finntroll established themselves as the strongest name in Pagan-folk scene. In 2004 Finntroll released EP “Trollhammaren” and LP “Nattfodd” that guaranteed them the survival in flood of same sounding pagan bands falling from the sky daily. Despite some major line up changes, they still represent the main heavy drinkers and happy party animals that tour as regularly as they put out new records. They released “Ur Jordens Djup”, a record everyone was waiting for. There’s a big list of pagan bands these days but there’s only a few of them who got a slot at Metalcamp 2008.
