The history of dumbbells dates back to the old models which were one size and single-weight. They have come a long way if you compare the old models to the new dynamic models. In the modern society weight lifters often opt for adjustable-dumbbells for the basic reason of speed and efficiency in which they are able to change the weight plates during the workout program. For a professional and healthy workout program you need to have a basic understanding of the different types of adjustable dumbbells available so that you get to choose the best to enhance your workout session.
Types of Dumbbells
- Spring Clip
Spring clip is the first type of dumbbell that operates by the use of a metal collar which holds the plates in place. Attached to the metal collar are squeezable handles which basically allow you to put and remove the collar anytime you want to adjust the weight of course by removing or adding weight plates. This type of adjustable dumbbell is designed in a unique and secure way such that they are able to handle huge amounts of weight plates without damaging the spring.
Turn dial is the second type of dumbbell that allows one to adjust the weights simply by turning a dial to the desired weight. It is more of an automatic weight lifting machine, unlike spring clip where you have to unload and load the weight plates manually. The Turn-dial has all the plates and bar loaded on the metal housing. By turning the dial to a desired amount of weight, a pin is drawn either in or out of the plates which in turn causes the plate of your selected weight to be chosen. If you want to change weight all you have to do is place the bar back to the housing and then turn the dial to either select or deselect weight.
- Sport Block
Sport block is the last but not least type of dumbbell we are going to discuss. It is very efficient and provides a mechanism of changing weights just like in a gym. In order to adjust weight, one is required to either pull a magnetized pin in or rather pull it out depending on your weight preference. It is also efficient in that it allows users to hold it at different points during a workout exercise. This adds flexibility and dynamics advantage to the user.
